Canada at Your Own Pace — Flexible 3-to-7-Day Itineraries Between Calgary and Vancouver

Private tour at Peyto Lake, with a panoramic view of the turquoise waters in the Canadian Rockies

Traveling through the Canadian Rockies is every nature lover's dream. But crossing monumental landscapes squeezed into a tour bus, following rigid schedules, doesn't do justice to the experience.

At Vancouver by Locals, we turn your trip into an extraordinary, fully custom journey. With expert local guides and premium private vehicles, you explore turquoise lakes, ancient glaciers, and the peaks of Banff and Jasper with total flexibility, comfort, and privacy. Whether starting in Calgary or driving the scenic roads from Vancouver, we take care of every detail so you can simply take in the scenery.

Guided by Me or My Trusted Team

Whenever possible, I personally guide every multi-day journey myself. When I'm already out with another group (or off exploring some corner of the world!), one of my personally trained team guides takes over the itinerary instead. Either way, you're traveling with someone who knows every stretch of the road, the best photo spots, and how to adapt to your pace day after day.

Choose Your Ideal Canadian Rockies Itinerary

We offer 3 customizable itinerary options to fit perfectly with your flight plans and travel preferences.

1

Full Focus on the Rockies

Start & End in Calgary

Ideal for those who want to maximize time directly in the mountains and streamline flight logistics. You and your group land at Calgary International Airport (YYC), where our private team gives you a warm welcome, and we head straight into the heart of the National Parks. The itinerary includes an in-depth exploration of Banff, the iconic Lake Louise, the breathtaking Icefields Parkway, and Jasper National Park. At the end, we drive back across the landscape to Calgary for your return flight.

From the Rockies to the Pacific

Calgary → Vancouver

Ideal for those who want to experience the striking transition between the snow-capped Rockies, the wineries of the interior, and the Vancouver coastline. We meet you in Calgary and begin exploring Banff and Jasper. From there, we start a spectacular road trip toward the British Columbia coast, with a strategic overnight stop along the way — you choose between Kelowna (Okanagan Valley, perfect for wine lovers and vineyard scenery) or Kamloops (rustic landscapes and an efficient historic route). The itinerary ends in the vibrant city of Vancouver.

We depart from Vancouver, cutting through British Columbia's mountains, with an overnight stop along the way (in Kelowna or Kamloops) for your total comfort and rest. After the scenic drive through the interior, we arrive with full energy to explore the top attractions of Banff, Jasper, and the surrounding area. frequently asked questions

FAQ

Is accommodation included in the package?

No — accommodation throughout the itinerary (including nights in Banff, Jasper, and the Kelowna or Kamloops stop) is booked and paid for by the client. We're happy to recommend good options, but the booking is yours to make.

How many days does the itinerary take?

It varies quite a bit depending on the option chosen — typically between 3 and 7 days. We'll work with you to fine-tune the ideal length based on your available time and flights.

Can we customize the itinerary across the 3 options shown?

Absolutely! These 3 options are starting points — we can adjust stops, add extra days, or combine elements from different routes, always aligning with your flight schedule.

Is it common to see wildlife along the way?

Yes! Bears, elk, and mountain goats appear fairly often along the road, especially on the Icefields Parkway. Spotting them along the way is one of the highlights of the trip. (For safety and per Parks Canada rules, we avoid pulling over on the shoulder to photograph wildlife.)

What's the best time of year for this itinerary?

May through September offer the best conditions, with roads fully open and the glacial lakes at their most vibrant turquoise. Outside that window, parts of the route may have limited access due to snow — we'll help you plan the best dates for your trip.

What's the vehicle capacity?

We operate a Toyota Sienna and a Mercedes Sprinter, accommodating everything from small families to larger groups. Just let us know your group size.
